Nutrition Month 2010
March is Nutrition Month across Canada. In celebration of healthy eating, dietitians across Canada unite to organize events and communications to reinforce the importance of nutrition in achieving health and wellbeing. Nutrition Month celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006. Since the early 1980’s, the Campaign has grown and is now one of the most recognized social marketing campaigns in Canada.
Nutrition Month stimulates nutrition activities in communities across Canada, and shows you where to find dietitians, your best source of reliable nutrition information.
We know the interest of Canadians in nutrition is high and dietitians want to make sure you have easy access to credible sources of information. During March, watch for Nutrition Month activities in your community.

6. History
Getting Started
Nutrition Month had its early roots in a few provinces during the 1970s. A small group of community nutritionists in Ontario found that by designating one week of the year as Nutrition Week, they created new opportunities with other community groups and health professionals. As the success of the week grew, local dietitians joined in the efforts by planning special activities in their work places, shopping malls, libraries and with the media.
Other provinces planned similar independent campaigns. In March 1981, the Canadian Dietetic Association (CDA – now Dietitians of Canada) and all the provincial associations jointly presented the first National Nutrition Week under the theme ENERGY IN – ENERGY OUT. In 1982, Nutrition Week expanded to a month and became Nutrition Month.
